The Certified General Accountants of Ontario is webcasting the keynote session at a conference they are holding next week, with staff letting relevant publics and partner organizations know about this free professional development opportunity that they’ve extended beyond the membership and media. AIMS members are one such group.
The 2007 Canadian Economic Outlook keynote session features the inimitable Dr. Sherry Cooper, Executive Vice-President and Chief Economist, BMO Capital Markets, who is acclaimed for both her subject expertise and her dynamic speaking style.
I’m told the economic update will be up to the minute (re: relevancy and breaking news) and likely written about 12 hours before the CGA Ontario event, but it’s expected Dr. Cooper will touch upon the following areas:
- the impact of falling commodity prices on Western Canada’s economic strength
- inflation pressure resulting from slowing economies in the U.S. and Canada and their impact on interest rates
- risks to the overall outlook, including the potential for a further fall in commodity prices, a deeper U.S. downturn, inflation pressures, the ever-present threat of terrorism and the possibility of a pandemic.
The keynote session and its complementary (and complimentary!) webcast are scheduled for Thursday, February 15th, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. EST. If you can’t listen to the webcast live, the archived version is available for downloading/listening for an additional three months.
Maybe you don’t deal in economics, accounting and finance in your daily work life, but I think it is really important for marketers to hone their business skills, too. I think this is a neat opportunity for us to get a better handle on Canada’s economic and financial outlook for 2007, which can only help the business and marketing decisions we’ll make all year. (Thanks to AIMS member, Judy Gombita, for inviting AIMS members to participate!)
All you need to do from your end is register for access (it’s very fast). Visit CGA Ontario’s dedicated web page on the CNW Group platform. You’ll receive a reminder e-mail about the webcast, then can choose whether to listen to it live or at a later date (or both).
